Tassel Madness

This DIY could not be easier! Tassels are everywhere now - on shoes, purses, clothing and so on (see here and here). I decided to get crafty and make some myself instead of buying something similar. I ordered the fabric from an Etsy shop that sells suede squares. You could also go to a fabric store and pick out suede fabric if it’s more convenient. I liked ordering the squares because I knew I wouldn’t end up with extra fabric that would never get used up. This way you’re getting the exact amount you need (for the most part). Also, I loved the variety of color options - they were all beautiful! I chose two 5x5 square packets (Radiant Rose Petal and Simply Fresh Spring).

Tools you’ll need:

1) Suede fabric

2) Fabric scissors

3) Measuring tape

4) Pen

5) Fabric glue

Here’s the step by step guide:

1) Cut the fabric piece in half

2) Measure one inch down from the top of the swatch and make line. This is where you can get creative, and make the different sizes you would like.

3) Cut slits up to line all the way across the fabric

4) On the very end, cut one piece all the way to the top so you have a separate piece of fabric

5) Put small dot of glue on bottom of piece and glue two ends together to make loop

6) Glue loop in from edge of fabric and roll fabric over loop. Glue periodically as you roll (see below)

I added these tassels to a pair of Steve Madden heals, but I've also added them to the outside of my summer bag. I love how easy these are to make, and can easily be switched out from season to season!
